Mission The Jubilee Catholic Schools Network provides an academically rigorous and vibrantly Catholic education that prepares students to become all that God created them to be both today and tomorrow.

Jubilee Schools began in July 1999 when Bishop J. Terry Steib, SVD, announced that previously closed urban Catholic schools would reopen to make a high quality education widely accessible to Memphis youth. The schools were named in honor of the Jubilee year, a year of grace and celebration. Since its inaugural year, the Jubilee Catholic Schools Network has grown to serve over 1,500 students each year in nine schools: eight elementary and one middle/high school. Our schools have further been studied and recognized on the national stage:

  • Known nationally as the “Miracle in Memphis"
  • Featured in a speech by President George W. Bush during his Summit on Inner-city, Faith-based Education
  • Praised by The New York Times for having one of the best models for Catholic, urban education in the country

Today, the Jubilee Catholic Schools Network serves approximately 1,600 students each year across nine schools: eight elementary and one middle/high school. In our diverse student population, 30% of students are Catholic while the majority come from other faith traditions, 81% of students are racial minorities, and over 80% of families are economically disadvantaged. To better serve families' needs, Jubilee Catholic School tuition operates on a sliding scale supported by significant need-based scholarships. Upon graduating from a Jubilee elementary school, students are encouraged to continue their Catholic education and are granted assistance if they enroll in a Catholic middle or high school. The ‘Second Step’ scholarship is also awarded to students based on income, although, due to the changes in costs for middle and high school, the percentage of the tuition paid varies. Beyond being highly accessible, the Network strives to also provide the highest quality education to our students. In the 2014-2015 academic year, we achieved a new landmark when our students earned scores above the national average in reading, language arts, and math. For the 2015-2016 school year, students maintained this benchmark and kindergartners continued to produce the Network's highest scores, averaging in the 90th national percentile in reading, 79th in language, and 86th in math.

The Jubilee Catholic Schools Network operates because of the generosity of donors. 73% of our funding comes from individual and corporate philanthropy and every day of the calendar year costs approximately $25,000 in donor funding. While our primary need is funding for scholarships and tuition assistance, our schools are also always grateful for the following:
  • Books
  • Computers/technology
  • Volunteers to read with our students, visit classrooms, and provide career presentations
  • Corporate sponsorship for the Education That Works internship program

Description The ETW program is a corporate internship program that is fully integrated into the curriculum at Memphis Catholic High School. Through this innovative program, Memphis Catholic students' educations are extended beyond the classroom to include real-world, corporate internships, which provide a unique opportunity for students to connect their current educational experience with the real-world professional experience they will encounter today, in college, and beyond.
Population Served Adolescents Only (13-19 years)
Budget $125,000.00
Short Term Success We know the ETW program helps students both inside and outside of the classroom. Therefore, it is our goal to see 100% of juniors attending Memphis Catholic to go on to graduate high school and be accepted into an institution of higher learning.
Long Term Success Through the ETW program, we hope to ensure all students have the tools they need to succeed in college and beyond. We want 100% of our students to attend and graduate from higher education such as military, trade school, or college within 5 years of graduation. We further hope to see our students continuing to be a positive force for change in the Memphis community.
Examples of Program Success Since the introduction of Education That Works ten years ago, the graduation rate at Memphis Catholic has soared to 99.2% with a college, military, or trade school attendance rate of 98.6%. This is almost unheard of in any school anywhere in the country. In 2015, 100% of our seniors graduated and all went on to higher education.
